Child labor in Pakistan

A young Afghan boy lays down newly made bricks at a brick factory on the outskirts of Peshawar, North-West Frontier Province, Pakistan. 18 October 2006. Today, in Pakistan alone, more three million child workers are believed to be engaged in economic activities in the agricultural and manufacturing sectors. With poverty on the rise, many families are forced to use the services of their children to survive. Socially and culturally child labour has not been shunned as successive governments and political leaders have hardly regarded child labour as a major problem since they derive support from those who exploit children: landlords and business entrepreneurs who look out for cheap labour.
